What can I expect during my first session?
Your introductory session will be 90 minutes long to allow time for you to settle in and talk about what has brought you into therapy at this time. Having a safe and trustworthy connection with your counsellor is key to working through heavy topics that require vulnerability. This session will focus on gathering history and understanding the context of your decision to seek therapy. We will discuss how we can work together, and I will answer any questions you may have about my approach and framework with clients. Together, we will identify your goals for therapy and discuss strategies to move toward them.
Do you provide sessions in person or online?
Most sessions are held in person. I also offer the option of online sessions through Jane, a secure and confidential booking platform. When you book an online session through Jane, you’ll receive a link for your video session at the time of booking.
Are counselling sessions covered through my insurance provider?
I am able to direct bill insurance companies through TELUS Health. Please check the list below to see whether your insurance provider is registered with TELUS Health and covers Canadian Certified Counsellors. Services provided by a Canadian Certified Counsellor may be eligible for reimbursement through various insurance plans; however, coverage depends on your individual policy. This information can be found in your insurance plan booklet or by contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm whether Canadian Certified Counsellors are covered under your plan.
Sessions that are not covered by your insurance provider may be eligible for reimbursement through a Health Spending Account. Counselling services are also considered a tax-deductible medical expense. Receipts are provided at the end of each session for insurance reimbursement purposes or to submit with your income tax return.
